Bucket Truck Training Mesa - The Vehicle-Mounted Aerial Work Platform or bucket truck training program is intended to decrease the risk of incident and personal injury while working in close proximity or with bucket trucks by effectively training qualified operators. An aerial lift device refers to whichever vehicle-mounted device, articulating or telescoping, or both, which is used to position employees to reach locations that will otherwise be inaccessible. Aerial lift devices are used in order to elevate workers to above-ground work locations.

The program aims to provide operators with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and training materials needed to efficiently and safely operate vehicle-mounted aerial work platforms.

The program includes a classroom training session and a hands-on training session. To be able to become certified, participants need to be successful in both parts. A full-size certificate and a wallet-size certificate would be issued upon completing the program.

Types of lifts comprise extensible boom platforms, articulating boom platforms, vertical towers, aerial ladders and aerial ladder trucks and any combination of these devices. Aerial lift devices are often made of metal, wood, fiberglass, reinforced plastic or other materials.

Definitions

Platform: section of the aerial device that is designed to carry staff.
Mobile unit: a combination of aerial devices, like for example its vehicle and related equipment.

Employers have the responsibility to make sure their employee acquire proper training before operating aerial devices. Workers must make certain they also receive the required training and that they do not operate lift devices if they are not authorized to do so. Employees must ensure that they have on the right protective equipment when working from the platform.

The course content used in the bucket truck training program comprises operating the vehicle-mounted aerial work platform, pre-shift inspections, safe operating practices, lifting capacity, use of emergency controls, and administering theory and practical tests. Operators will learn legal requirements under the local and federal regulations.
